Kraken symbols now use standard pair names: DOGEUSD, SOLUSD, XLMBTC
Kraken symbols on TAAPI.IO now follow one simple rule: take the pair name as Kraken shows it and drop the slash. DOGE/USD is DOGEUSD, SOL/USD is SOLUSD, XLM/BTC is XLMBTC.
Until now, our Kraken symbols mixed several naming conventions. Some kept Kraken’s internal asset codes (SOLZUSD), some used legacy names (XDGUSD for Dogecoin, XBT for Bitcoin as the quote currency), and others didn’t. Most Kraken pairs didn’t match any name you’d see on Kraken itself, which made them hard to guess. That’s fixed.
If you use Kraken data on TAAPI.IO, please check your symbols. Requests with the old names no longer return data.
What changed
| Pair on Kraken | Old TAAPI symbol | New TAAPI symbol |
|---|---|---|
| DOGE/USD | XDGUSD |
DOGEUSD |
| SOL/USD | SOLZUSD |
SOLUSD |
| XLM/BTC | XLMXBT |
XLMBTC |
| ADA/BTC | ADAXBT |
ADABTC |
| AIO/EUR | AIOZEUR |
AIOEUR |
The pattern:
- Dogecoin is
DOGE, notXDG. - Bitcoin is
BTCeverywhere, including as the quote currency (XLMBTC, notXLMXBT). - No more internal asset codes. Newer coins with a fiat quote no longer carry Kraken’s extra
Z(SOLUSD, notSOLZUSD).
Pairs that already followed the standard name, like BTCUSD, ETHUSD and XRPEUR, are unchanged.
You can still write symbols with the slash if you prefer: DOGE/USD and DOGEUSD both work.
Watch out: three symbols now mean a different pair
Under the new rule, three existing names now point to a different coin:
| Symbol | Used to be | Is now | If you meant the old pair, use |
|---|---|---|---|
AIOZEUR |
AIO/EUR | AIOZ/EUR | AIOEUR |
AIOZUSD |
AIO/USD | AIOZ/USD | AIOUSD |
REZUSD |
RE/USD | REZ/USD | REUSD |
Requests for these symbols won’t fail; they’ll quietly return data for a different coin. Update them first.
Dogecoin and BTC-quoted pairs are live again
There’s good news too. Kraken stopped accepting its legacy XDG and XBT names in its own data feeds, and because of that, Dogecoin pairs and every BTC-quoted pair (like ETHBTC and XLMBTC) had stopped receiving live candles. With the new names they’re live again, and historical refills for them work again too.
Your candle history moved with the new names
We moved the stored candle history for every renamed pair to its new symbol, so your indicators have the same history to work with as before. For the three pairs above that changed meaning, the history stayed with the original coin under its new name (for example, AIO/EUR history is now under AIOEUR).
While we were at it, Kraken weekly candles now always start on Monday 00:00 UTC, like on every other crypto exchange we support.
What to do

GET https://v2.taapi.io/exchanges/kraken/symbolsSee the exchanges documentation for details.
-
Update any stored symbols in your bots, scripts, spreadsheets or databases that use the old names. Search for
XDG,XBTand any symbol with aZbeforeUSDorEUR. -
Check your WebSocket subscriptions. Streaming uses the same symbol names, so update your subscription lists too.
-
Double-check
AIOZEUR,AIOZUSDandREZUSDif you use them.
